About Johanna Kenworthy

After graduating with a Bachelors degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Dance Therapy in Mississippi my interests quickly turned to Eastern medical philosophy as a gateway into my own healing processes. As I attended the Acupuncture Institute in Berkeley, California this began fueling my passion for holistic health and the self-healing tools that we as individuals crave to shift our soul consciousness. While in San Francisco I went on to study and work with various Eastern medical philosophies such as acupressure, Asian massage, biofeedback-structural integration, functional empaths and herbalism, which has enhanced my body of knowledge in the fields of wellness training.

In the field of yoga over the past 20+ years, I have worked with various teachers, styles and programs within the walls of Massachusetts beloved Kripalu Center®.  This learning process has allotted opportunities that I am now able to share as tools in the "tool belt" of life on this journey of healing. Nothing is as sweet as those realization moments on and off our mats!

Many of you may know this particular journey as an undertaking of peeling the layers of our karma (interpersonal " isms") to be able to create and recognize our dharma (life’s purpose). Over the last fifteen years I've  successfully complete my licensing with Kripalu® as well as become registered with the National Yoga Alliance® as a professional level instructor and mentor. Continuing to educate myself and to be a creative catalyst for growth is how I share what I am learning; which is to be the student of life!

Yoga has roots in Ayurvedic history and my desire to learn about the transgressional lineage of the Silk Road brought me to Asia where I toured Thailand, Tibet, India and China to see first hand the history were taught in our philosophy courses. It has been an amazing experience to be a student on this journey.

My interest is in teaching the deeper integrating practices of whole health.  Sharing and promoting the self healing work through this fantastic yogic journey comes naturally for me as its not dogmatic and applies to, for and with all walks of life.

In the field of massage, over the past 17+ years I enjoyed completing extensive certifications throughout the US and abroad. Staying committed to the Asia arts, I have continued my interest of combining yoga and massage with Thai Yoga Massage® with Kam Thye Chow of Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

The intensive work needed in the field of Neuromuscular/Myofascial work began for me with the Muscular Therapy Institute (Benjamin Techniques-TM) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. where I began specializing in body analysis, anatomy, pathology, physiology that has enhanced my palpatory skills to apply the western ideologies while working with individual clients through the venue of Asian medical arts.

Recently I have embarked on incorporating massage cupping®  which is an effective tool dating back 2500 years. Determined to bring the finest quality of training to my clients I'm nationally certified in therapeutic massage and bodywork.

I've had the opportunity to directly manage and receive additional specialization certifications with North Shore YMCA for the Greater Beverly Y in Massachusetts. Working directly with our community at large has enhanced my ability to communicate the practices of holistic health and the dynamic opportunities this field can bring.

Any physical practice is just that physical. Let's learn and practice together to be "actively calm, and calmly active." This type of attitude allows you to find happiness, no matter what "outer" circumstances surround us. Having a lasting sense of inner peace, especially when practiced regularly, will positively affect everything in our lives. This gives us the ability to be resilient in the midst of heath issues, economic challenges, and everything else. This is the daily practice called yoga! -Parahansa Yogananda

As a resident in Beverly, Massachusetts, I bring to my community a solid conviction to integrate whole health practices into western medical principles. I work with local practitioners and service providers to create a community where compassionate citizens give to one another from a deeper acceptance of what is in our own lives and by making the best out of everything.

Allow me to share the skills that I have learned through massage, Pilates, yoga and other specialty therapeutic services with you so that you too, can begin creating your personal "tool belt" of healing.  Having the ability to share these tools as ways to incorporate relaxation from tension or injury and the inspiration to integrate these practices into your daily lives both clinically and therapeutically is Santosha (contentment with what is in our lives) and my dharma.
